My Book Haul 5/28/16

My Book Haul 5/28/16 | Behind Closed Doors, Elixir, The View From the Cheap Seats, Unwanted, Everybody Sees the Ants, Every Exquisite Thing, Sorta Like a Rock Star, Boy21, Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock
In need of a new way to showcase titles, I decided that My Book Haul seems like a good fit. I've included links to Goodreads if you want more information.

What's funny is that May was going to be my catch-up month. I wasn't going to accept any new review requests so I could finish the reviews I had already committed to and start reading what I wanted, when I wanted. That lasted about a week and a half. I am weak.

For Review:

This was an email request from Wunderkind PR and I made the mistake of reading the excerpt. Oh my gosh! Sounded so freaking good that I had to say yes!

Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace: he has looks and wealth, she has charm and elegance. You'd like to get to know Grace better. But it's difficult, because you realize Jack and Grace are never apart. Some might call this true love.... The perfect marriage? Or the perfect lie?

30 Days of Books, Days 1-8

30 Day of Books
Jenni Elyse is hosting a 30 Days of Books Event! I stumbled across it late, but it looks like fun so decided to jump in and catch up!

The best book you read last year

The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness. Really loved this story, as it was quirky and humorous but still interesting and well written. I couldn't put it down and it was my only 5/5 rated read from last year!

Happy Blogoversary! My Seven Year Itch

So. Seven years. How on earth have seven years gone by already?

It was seven years ago today
That I started up this blog to play
It's been going in and out of style
But I hope that it's raised a smile
So may I introduce to you
The blog you've known for all these years
Alexia's Books and Such book blog

Sincere apologies to both The Beatles and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band!

So. Seven years. How on earth have seven years gone by already?

The Fireman by Joe Hill

The Fireman by Joe Hill book review
Title:  The Fireman
Author:  Joe Hill
Release Date:  May 17, 2016
Publisher:  William Morrow
Source:  eARC provided by the publisher

No one knows exactly when it began or where it originated. A terrifying new plague is spreading like wildfire across the country, striking cities one by one: Boston, Detroit, Seattle.

The doctors call it Draco Incendia Trychophyton. To everyone else it’s Dragonscale, a highly contagious, deadly spore that marks its hosts with beautiful black and gold marks across their bodies - before causing them to burst into flames. Millions are infected; blazes erupt everywhere.

There is no antidote. No one is safe. (Goodreads)

My Review:

Never judge a book by its cover. Additionally, never judge a book by its length or an author by his familial connections.

All good advice, which I did not follow. I judged. I judged hard.

I was wrong.

The Fireman is a bear of a book, well over 700 pages! I don't normally read books this big because frankly, they intimidate me. Thankfully I had an ecopy of the book so couldn't be intimidated by its sheer massivity.

And the author is the son of Stephen King (the emperor of ginormous books), so I foolishly assumed there was narcissism involved.

I judged. And I was wrong.

My Review:

Buzz Books are one of my favorite ways to discover new books and I eagerly await each new release! Here are some of the samples that caught my eye in this edition.

Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake has the unique premise that really piqued my interest! In every generation, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessing a coveted magic. On their sixteenth birthday, they must fight for the crown and the survivor becomes queen. Wow!

My Book Haul 5/7/16

My Book Haul | Alexia's Books and Such
In need of a new way to showcase titles, I decided that My Book Haul seems like a good fit. I like giving books a little special attention as sometimes it can be awhile before I'm able to review them. Sad to say, but some get put on the shelf and gather a little dust before I'm able to give them the love they deserve. I've included links to Goodreads if you want more information.

For Review:

This is one of the excerpts from the Spring Buzz Books that I really fell in love with, so I was thrilled when the publisher offered me a review copy! At over 700 pages, it's a long one. Hope it's worth it!

Blog Ahead Mini Challenge - May 2016

Blog Ahead
Oops! Thought I had scheduled this, but guess not. Better late than never, right?

Since I'm not doing well with writing posts on the fly, maybe scheduling them in advance will work.

Details:

The Goal: Increase your number of "Scheduled Posts" by 15 posts.
(ex. If you start with 0 scheduled you end with 15 scheduled. If you start with 15 scheduled you end with 30 scheduled)

The Dates:  May 1-15

Who Can Join:  Any blogger or author with a blog! Genre/type doesn't matter.

Since I have nothing scheduled at the moment, I want to write/schedule at least 15 posts. Not including anything I post before the 15th.

Here goes nothing....
