Finnegan Lane might be the most unwanted man in Ashland these days, but he’s determined to try to make amends for his past mistakes... (Goodreads)

My Review:

The Elemental Assassin books are one of my favorite series by one of my favorite authors, and this novella doesn't disappoint!

Finn is the foster brother of Gin Blanco, aka the feared assassin The Spider. He's one of my favorite characters, even if he did act like a bit of a jerk last time round. But his love and loyalty for his family and friends can't be doubted.

Still reeling from the events of Bitter Bite, Finn is having a hard time coming to terms with the fallout or forgiving himself for what happened. Even though Gin doesn't seem to blame him, plenty of his co-workers place the blame squarely on his shoulders. That doesn't bother Finn too much, as he blames himself too.

Needless to say, things have been more than a little frosty at the bank where he works. Doesn't help that his boss insists that Finn attend the funerals for all of his fallen co-workers.

While at the funeral of one of the bank guards, Finn notices something unsettling. Investigating further, he decides to stick his nose where someone wishes he wouldn't. But despite everything, Finn is still Finn and I loved seeing him step up to the plate!

Wouldn't really recommend this one if you haven't at least read Bitter Bite, as I don't think it would make much sense. Nothing against the author, but it's too short to really set up the backstory or anything.

Loved this little glimpse of things from Finn's point of view and can't wait for their next adventure!

  1. How can anyone who looks like him be unwanted? Sounds like fun though. I've wanted to dive back into urban fantasy, so maybe this series would be a good starting point.

  2. Whilst this does appeal to me a bit, I don't think it appeals to me quite enough that I'd necessarily want to read any of the previous books SO given your comment this is a novel I'll probably pass on. Glad your enjoying the series though, thanks for a thorough review.
