April Wrap Up

monthly wrap up

Monthly wrap up posts seemed to help keep me on track last year, so going to try them again this year.

Books read

Didn't make my reading goal last year, so lowered it from 100 to 75 books. In order to meet my Goodreads goal, I need to read 6.25 books per month. According to Goodreads, I've read 5 books this month. Better than last month, but not where I want to be yet.
  1. Black and White by Jackie Kessler and Caitlin Kittredge
  2. Cold Burn of Magic by Jennifer Estep
  3. I Am the Traitor by Allen Zadoff
  4. Buzz Books 2015:  Spring/Summer sampler
  5. Alive by Scott Sigler

April Reviews:

  1. Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride
  2. Trigger Warning by Neil Gaiman
  3. Carniepunk anthology
  4. Black and White by Kessler & Kittredge
  5. Cold Burn of Magic by Jennifer Estep
  6. Buzz Books 2015: Spring/Summer sampler
  7. She's the Boss by Lisa Lim

Blog Goals

One of my goals has been to update my old labels. Did you know that you can update posts in bulk? I didn't, and was so excited when I found out how! Saves so much time and you don't have to go through each post one by one. Genius!

On the posts page in Blogger, select all the posts that need a new label by checking the box next to the post title. Click the label button (next to the publish button) and choose the label you want to use and voila, all your posts are updated with the new label! Love this feature!

Around the Blogosphere

Found several fun posts around the blogosphere that I thought you might enjoy:

Ten Things You Should Regularly Tell Writers is a fun list of what every writer would love to hear!

Candace had an interesting post about contests. Geared towards authors, I think her tips would be helpful to everyone. Check it out at Let's Talk About Giveaways

Nicole at Feed Your Fiction Addiction wrote a great post about using affiliate links:  Do You Use Affiliate Links?  I need to remember to do this next time I need something from Amazon!

Are you brave enough to find out how long it will take to finish your TBR pile with the TBR Calculator? I'm not!

Jenni had a fun post about her 40 Before 40 Bucket List! Makes me want to pull out my old bucket list and revise it!

Overall

Did my first Sunday Post in April! I might start doing one around the middle of the month as I don't think I'd have enough material for weekly posts.

Also did a few discussion posts dealing with blogger envy, reading "meh" books, and my favorite painting. Curious if anyone has any ideas for future discussion posts?

Still working on my blogging skills and signed up for a blogging course online, plus joined a few blogging groups on Facebook. I've more or less given up on Tsu and decided to focus on my Facebook page instead. Thinking about scheduling some tweets since I'm not very good with Twitter. Any Twitter parties you'd recommend?

Let's see, what else? I finally signed up for MailChimp and got rid of FeedBurner, so my emails should be easier to read now! And May is my 6th blogoversary! Need to come up with something special to celebrate (especially since I totally forgot my 5th!).

Here's to a great May!

  1. Congratulations, you read a lot! I also lowered my reading goals for this year, only 50 I think. It was more realistic for me right now that I'm not reading as much as previous years. And it's a plus not to feel the pressure hehe

I also discovered Blogger let you update post in bulk a while ago updating my tags. So much easy that way!

    1. I wish I had known that before I updated so many manually, one by one, but at least I found out about it before I was halfway done so did save quite a bit of time. I love shortcuts! :)

  2. Oh my gosh! I just did the tbr calculator. It wasn't as bad as I thought but still. If I up my numbers back to 100 a year it will take no time! Have a great May!

  4. 5 books in the month is very close to where you need to be to achieve. Wow coming up to your 6th blogoversary, that is an achievement. Hope you are finding your blogging course helpful. I am doing a WordPress one and finding all those little things I just didn't know! Actually not sure if I want to!

    1. Thanks for the encouraging words, Kathryn! I'm trying to take comfort in the fact that I'm reading more books every month, but I'm nowhere near where I used to be and I'm not sure why.

The blogging course is semi-helpful, so guess it's worthwhile. I've learned a few things, but there are a few more suggestions that I just don't want to do. For instance, after so many years on blogger, I don't want to switch to wordpress. It would be like starting over again and that would probably suck all the fun out of blogging for me.

Good luck with your blogging course! :)

  5. I glad you read more than last month, but sorry it's not where you wanted it to be. I'm on track to meet my goal, but I read less this month than last month so I'm a bit disappointed. (I'm an over achiever, lol.)

    1. Thanks Jenni! I'll get there, just not as quickly as I hoped. I need some of your over-achiever mojo!

  6. Sounds like you are doing quite well even if you aren't where you want to be just yet. I didn't know about the bulk updating. Thanks for that!

    1. Thanks Belle! Still too scared to try the calculator as I'm afraid it will tell me there aren't enough years left! lol

  11. I need to get my kester back in action here. I have several discussion posts started, but need to finish and post. I need to get back to all things, if life would calm just a bit. *sigh*

Looks like you are doing wonderfully at everything! :D Way to go!

  12. I keep thinking I need to get signed up for MailChimp instead of sticking with Feedburner too. Maybe I will add it to my next Bloggiesta list!

    1. It wasn't very hard, so I recommend it! If nothing else, the emails look nicer and MailChimp is supposed to be more reliable. I found easy instructions on Pinterest, so good luck!
