Dear Google Reader, I wish I knew how to quit you

Google Reader keeps trying to break up with me, but I'm still in denial. I keep getting notices that it's leaving, but I'm hanging on like a heartsick girl who doesn't want to admit it's over.

I know that I should be looking for a replacement, but I never was any good at rebounds. My first love will always be Google Reader and the others just don't measure up. While I've already imported my RSS feeds to both Feedly and Bloglovin' and know that I should be using them now, I keep going back to Reader.

It's sad really....

How is everyone else coping? I've played around with both Feedly and Bloglovin' but aren't really comfortable with either one. Email subscriptions aren't an option for me because my email box is already out of control. Can't just bookmark all the blogs I follow because my bookmark list is already crazy. *sigh*

Maybe July will come and Google will tell us it was all a big practical joke? That they were just punking us? I wouldn't mind, and would totally forgive them! Yeah, I'm totally the lovestruck girl who refuses to admit her boyfriend is a giant douche bag who is leaving her.....

  1. Love this! I didn't like feedly or bloglovin either. I like to read on my phone so I started using MobileRSS which is great however when google reader goes away I won't be able to sync it between my phone and my computer anymore which means that I will have to either read exclusively on my phone or exclusively on my computer or find something new :(

    1. I don't like reading on my phone as my screen is so small. Hoping someone comes out with a Reader look-alike, and soon!

  2. Awful when these things are sent to tempt us and then snatched away. Not that I ever used Google Reader but I am grieving the loss of Neowork's counter that allowed me to track who was visiting my blog and from where. As you say there are alternatives out there but its a case of finding one you like.

    1. I know! We discover a new app/program/widget that we love, then it's cruely snatched away from us! So unfair! :(

  3. I have officially transitioned to Feedly, but it is just not the same as Reader. I once heard a rumor that Reader was going to come back in a similar version through Google+, but haven't seen any recent news about that. Still keeping my fingers crossed!!

    1. I'm not a big fan of Google+, but will start using it more if they attach Reader to it! Fingers crossed! :)

  4. I tooooootally agree. I have Feedly and have been trying to use it more often, but I'm in denial. Plus, I'm worried that Feedly will lose my GR subscriptions since when I sign in it always asks me to import from Google? I don't understand that. I guess I should research it...but the denial is so great...

    1. Glad to hear I'm not the only one in denial! I know I need to be more proactive, but will wallow in the river of da Nile for a bit longer... ;)

    1. I'm sure I'll get used to one of them sooner or later, but I'll be clinging onto my Reader 'til the bitter end too!

  6. I've been doing more bloglovin' but I've heard good things about feedly. I'm going to have to give it a genuine look-see.

  7. I have a program called Feedler Pro for my mobile devices that synchs really well with Google Reader. Unfortunately, they don't seem to be updating it for Reader's demise. I've tried Feedly and Bloglovin, but you are right, it just isn't the same. I'm going to keep using Reader until the final week, then I will reluctantly pick one of those two, but I refuse to switch until I absolutely have to.

  8. Doubtful it's a prank but who knows? I was hardcore DemonFeeder fan here for a while but lately I just stumble between my favorite sites and those I come across that catch my eye. I subscribe to BlogLovin' to but alas, my time is short so it's pretty hit and miss for me. *sad face* It's okay. We'll make it through the change together...as a happy little bloggy family. ^_^ Right guys?

    1. Right! We should start a support group for those of us still in denial! *L*

  9. I've been playing with Feedly and Bloglovin' as well. I seem to like Feedly better than Bloglovin', but neither are suiting me either. Sad. I loved Google Reader and it's set up.

    1. What really hurts is that I finally had my Reader set up the way I wanted! :(

    2. Yes! Me too. I knew where to find everyone and all was good. Then they had to go change my world. *pout*

    1. Google Reader Broke My Heart would have been a great post title! Or a good name for a band. *L*

Will take a look at eldonreader, as I haven't heard of that one. Thanks for the heads up!

  11. I've fallen for bloglovin, I started to use GoogleReader just as the first notice about it leaving was released so I backed away and didn't think much of it until last week when I dove into bloglovin

  12. I signed up for Bloglovin, but only for others to use it to follow me. Even now, I don't use google reader. The blogs I read, I put them in my blogroll and use that.
