 Blood Fugue by E.J. Wesley

Jenny Schmidt is a young woman with old heartaches. A small town Texas girl with big city attitude, she just doesn't fit in. Not that she has ever tried.

Suddenly, instead of burying it with the dead, Jenny is forced to confront the past. Armed only with an ancient family journal, her rifle, and an Apache tomahawk, she must save her grandfather’s life and embrace her dangerous heritage. Or be devoured by it.

Witch's Nocturne by E.J. Wesley

After receiving an ancient tribal journal from her grandfather, Jenny is sent on a mission of discovery in an attempt to unravel clues to her family's monster hunting past. The journey becomes more than academic when she is asked to confront a coven of dangerous witches who plan to cast an insidious spell on the plains of West Texas.

My Thoughts

These books are an excellent example of why you should never judge a book by its cover! Don't think I would have picked these up if they didn't come highly recommended by a trusted blogger, as I can be a bit of a cover snob. But then I would have missed out on an interesting story!

These are fast reads as they're short, but they both pack plenty of action!

Jenny makes a fun main character, as she's definitely her own woman! A nearly six feet tall computer geek with a purple mohawk, she doesn't exactly fit in with her small town neighbors. Luckily, she doesn't care!

In the first story, Blood Fugue, Jenny learns about her family history from a grandfather she thought was dead. In Witch's Nocturne, she starts her new life as a monster hunter.

Really enjoyed Jenny and her BFF Marshal, another strong, unique character! The stories are well-paced with decent characters and an interesting plot. My only complaint is that they're too short! Looking forward to seeing what happens next, as I really enjoyed the start of this series!

  3. So glad you spotlighted this one because if it hadn't popped up on a trusted friend's site, I like you would have by passed it...I try not to judge by a cover but if you know nothing about the author/story etc, you have to start somewhere, you know? Sounds like a good read. Thanks for spotlighting it! ^_^
